Physio-spectral Fragmentation and Anomalous Paranormal Occurrences
By Brian Schill

Question

How are anomalous paranormal occurrences brought into existence and how, on occasion, do they manifest at more than one location – as in the case with superposition – where the anomalies may be separated by hundreds of miles and numerous geographical barriers?

Hypothesis

Upon the death of the physical body an [unspecified] amount of bioelectric energies[1] are separated from the body and the natural dispersion of energies via the 2nd Law of Thermodynamics[2] is circumvented. When this occurs the body can no longer convert the energy produced by ATP (Adenosine-Tri-Phosphate) from caloric intake at a cellular level to work, thusly dispersing the interaction between the physical body at a molecular level and the bioelectric mass. This process, which would normally convert the energy to “work,” that is, life functions both within and external of the body in its normal cyclic function is disrupted. The bioelectric energies continue to build for a short period of time, generally from the point of death when the biochemical breakdown of ATP begins through what is typically considered to be the half life cycle of ATP molecule. After the half life cycle of the ATP molecule has peaked the bioelectric energies reach critical mass and are ejected from the body into the local environment in an event known as a BME (bioelectric mass ejection). During the process of the BME the energies are “shattered” being forced apart from one another as they enter the local environment external of the body.

The actions described above are the basic processes that have been proposed in the Physio-spectral Fragmentation theory. These actions create a reactive rift in bioelectric harmonics that causes an oppositional reaction to the 2nd Law of Thermodynamics becoming causation for the forced circumventing of the latter and a prohibition of bioelectric dissipation. What this means, ultimately, is that when the physical body is separated from its bioelectric energies the energies can no longer be converted to work and thusly, after a BME, it coagulates in the local environment until it either dissipates, is absorbed – or – until it gathers enough energy, via the Law of Similarity, to become self-aware at which time it is no longer considered to be a bioelectric anomaly, it then is classified as a paranormal anomaly due to its status of self awareness without a physical body.

In addition to the PF factor acting as the primary causation for anomalous paranormal occurrences a secondary factor – psychological unrest – is also believed to hold a key role. Psychological unrest is a secondary attribute of PF, but it acts as a primary contributor to anomalous anchoring to the material plane. Once the energies have been separated from the body and have become self-aware the “mind[3]” begins to function, and thusly recalls various attributions within its presupposed purpose in life. All “reasons” currently known to paranormal researchers for anomalous paranormal anchoring (attachments) to the physical plane lead back to psychological distress in one way or another. Some of the most common reasons given for this anchoring are:

  • The happiest time of a persons life was spent in a certain place (Reasoning for psychological distress: The person didn’t want to leave / move on for fear of what may lie beyond in the realm of death as well as possible anxiety and/or fear about the future situation such as judgment, etc.)

  • The anomaly is there to act as a guardian for something (Reasoning for psychological distress: There is a pathological need to protect a certain item, place, etc. that is believed to be of great importance in that individuals psyche and with that guardianship reasoning comes a need to continue the duty – the individual is worried that an undesired effect may take place if they are not there to insure that this effect does not occur.)

  • The person can not leave because they were murdered (Reasoning for psychological distress: Although the obvious may suggest extreme emotional duress, if the person was not take by surprise, a life cut short is usually a reason for psychological distress as this person was not prepared to die. This may also lead into other reasons such as fear of the way they were killed, fear of death, unfinished business and that the individual does not know that they are dead.)

  • The person had unfinished business (Reasoning for psychological distress: There is a psychological need for completion and any incomplete matters, especially those involving issues that were important to the deceased may create a degree of anxiety and / or worry that may only increase with the loss of the physical body since, at the loss of the physical body, the deceased can no longer affect the physical plane as they once did.)

  • The person committed suicide (Reasoning for psychological distress: Contrary to the idea that this person may be “damned” for taking their own life it seems more rational and logical that, rather than an outside force constraining an individual’s Neschamah (see footnote #3) to the realm of the earth, since they obviously are not in Sheol[4] there are heavy amounts of guilt, depression, anxiety, psychological and emotional duress that has been laid upon that person both in life and now in death.)

  • There is still a feeling of duty (Reasoning for psychological distress: Within the individual there is still a deep feeling of obligation to stay on the physical plane until their task is completed.)

  • The person is confused or disoriented (Reasoning for psychological distress: The mind, when some individuals die, does not seem to gain the clarity and awareness as completely as some others do. This lack of clarity and being in an unfamiliar state of being may lead to fear and / or anxiety that is projected into this confusion or disorientation which in turn generated fear.)

  • There is a fear of being dead (Reasoning for psychological distress: Many of us, especially as we approach our later years become increasingly aware of our own mortality. This awareness can cause anxiety, fear of death, fear of the unknown, fear of what will happen to our family members, and other important issues dealing with the life and death of the individual.)

  • The individual is unaware that they are dead (Reasoning for psychological distress: The factors with this reason run parallel with the reasons presented for confusion / disorientation.)

  • Sudden or traumatic death (Reasoning for psychological distress: See reasons given for murder.)

  • Don’t want to “cross over” or don’t know how to “cross over” (Reasoning for psychological distress: This is one of the most complex of all reasons since it can pertain to any of the previous reasons given. In addition this reason has its own unique set of circumstances that involve the individual’s personal faith or beliefs as well as potential fear of judgment upon death.)

Variable Factors & Applicable Laws :

In each situation, when a genuine paranormal occurrence takes place, there is a very unique and intricate set of variables and applications of the laws of physics that are tied to the event. The laws and variables that have been identified have been presented below, however, this listing represents what is, in all probability, and incomplete set or circumstances.

The First Law of Thermodynamics

The basic thought behind the First Law of Thermodynamics is that energy, in any form, is infinite but not necessarily cyclic. This means that energy, no matter what form it takes, will always maintain mass, a specific gravity, and will be infinite in nature, meaning that it can not be destroyed; only changed from one form to another. Energy can be lost via conduction, convection, etc. or dispersed during the transference process from potential to kinetic but never destroyed. The whole thought behind the First Law of Thermodynamics is fairly simple and straightforward as it states: “The change of energy in a thermodynamic system is equal to the heat transferred minus the work which is done.” More simply stated one could say: “Energy can not be created nor destroyed, only transformed from one state or form to another with a certain small percentage being lost as heat energy.”

The Second Law of Thermodynamics

The Second Law of Thermodynamics was proposed and discovered by Rudolph Julius Clausius (1822 - 1888) and William Thomson Kelvin (a.k.a. Lord Kelvin) 1824 - 1907). The Second Law of Thermodynamics, in its most basically defined form, states that no cyclic process is possible in which heat is absorbed from a source and completely converted into mechanical work.

The basic synapses of this idea is that no process to convert energy from one form to another will achieve the energy-to-work transference with one hundred percent efficiency. When performing the transference conversion some of the energy inevitably will not arrive at the intended point for which it was to be used. In line with this thought some scientists also theorize that in most cases when energy is in the act of being transformed from potential to kinetic and does not have a source directive, it tends to naturally disperse itself in symmetrical waves radiating outward from the core source at a geometrically predictable rate and distance until all of the available electrons have been dispersed into the local environment. This thought is of particular interest to any parapsychologist because as we understand, from the field work that we perform, this does not always hold true. In the case of true anomalous paranormal occurrences the bioelectric energy does not dissipate.

The Third Law of Thermodynamics

The Third Law of Thermodynamics is of concern to paranormal investigators because it is so closely intermeshed with the first two laws. The Third Law states: “It is impossible to reduce the temperature of a thermodynamic system to absolute zero within the courses of a finite series of operations.” This holds a great deal of relative significance for paranormal investigator because this would accurately point to the reason behind the “cold spots” that ghosts and other anomalies are notorious for. Although paranormal anomalies have the ability to absorb energy within the local atmosphere they never have the ability to maintain the amount of bioelectric energy that they originally possessed while they were living. This bioelectric field, while being actively generated by a living body would create heat. However, since these anomalies lack a physical body they do not have the ability to generate heat which is why an electromagnetic field is found when a ghost is present, but there usually tends to be lack of heat (or a cold spot as it is usually called) that is associated with the presence of a ghost.

The Law of Deposition

When a bioelectric field is removed or forced apart from its host source by a Mechanism of Causation and is not allowed to dissipate according to the physics outlined in the Second Law of Thermodynamics the energies will, through the act of covalent bonding, naturally associate themselves with an area or object within the local environment that has an electron deficit. The covalent bonding process that takes place between the bioelectric field of the host source and the environment ultimately results in the transference of the energies from the host source to a place or object in the local environment and thusly the deposition of bioelectric energy takes place. This deposition in turn creates a variable linear and temporal boundary which is directly influenced by and is dependant upon the strength of the original bioelectric field. The natural deposition and field retaining power of an object or place in the local environment is exponentially increased in areas that have high iron oxide, ferrous metal, quartz or silica content, which will be expounded upon more in a later portion of the text. Additionally, if the bioelectric field of an individual is deposited in more than one area over the lifetime of the individual this, in addition to the Law of Similarity, may explain why some paranormal anomalies are experienced in separate locations separated by large geographical expanses, periods of time, etc.

The Law of Conservation of Energy & Noether's Theorem

The Law of Conservation of Energy states that the total amount of energy in any isolated system remains constant but cannot be recreated, although it may change form. To expound on this idea Noether’s Theorem states that the symmetry of an energy mass, in this case, bioelectric energy, has an associated conserved quantity of energy. In other words, if the theory is invariant under the continuous symmetry of time translation, then its energy, which is a canonical conjugate quantity to time, is conserved.

The Law of Contact

First explicated by Sir James George Frazer in The Golden Bough, third edition (1911-1915), The Law of Contact states “Things which have once been in contact with each other continue to act on each other at a distance even after the physical contact has been severed.” This law lends support to the idea that over the period of an individual’s life large amounts of bioelectric energies may be deposited in locations that they frequent. This law is a potential explanation as to why, even when there is not violent death or a psychological stress variable, that some areas still exhibit anomalous paranormal occurrences.

The Law of Similarity

Again, drawing from the Golden Bough, Frasier noted that: “It [The Law of Similarity] is a systematized manipulation of energies where like produces like, or, that an effect will resemble its cause.”  When bioelectric energies are deposited in an area and thusly form a bioelectric mass through incidental contact the mass will continue to attract energies that were from the original source or energies that are as similar to its own as possible so that it may, by survivalist instinct, maintain its own existence. Additionally, the Law of Similarity may explain why and individual may die in one place but their apparition is seen in another. Each person’s bioelectric field is unique to them, much like their DNA patterns, however, energies are naturally attracted to other energies that are similar and thusly may be the reasoning paranormal anomalies that exhibit tendencies of superposition as well.

Environmental Factors

Some environmental factors can also play a role in acting as a major influence when a bioelectric mass has been released into the local environment. Areas that show the potential to absorb, store and eventually dissipate bioelectric energies are usually laden with one, if not both naturally occurring substances – quartz and iron oxide – as explained in the next few paragraphs.

The Stone Tape Theory

The Stone Tape Theory is based on the suggestion that various natural and man made materials that contain certain types of crystalline compounds are able to absorb a limited measure of bioelectric energy from living beings, amplify them and potentially “replay” them at a later time. It is believed that crystalline materials, such as quartz, have properties within their natural structure that make them more prone to absorbing, “recording,” and amplifying the bioelectric energy projections from events that would have a greater than average probability of bioelectric activity.

If we look into the structural nature of quartz it would seem that it, and other minerals like it, tend to be prone to absorbing and amplifying energy naturally, as in a piezoelectric circuit. Piezoelectric quartz crystals, like the ones in your watch, expand under the application of electrical voltage, but when the cycle reverses and the quartz crystal contracts or is compressed it generates voltage. It would seem that from the standpoint of the creation and / or retention of electrical pulses that the very structure of quartz is what gives it the inherent abilities to amplify energy.

The scientific formula for quartz is SiO2, silicon dioxide. Quartz is not the only mineral composed of SiO2 however. There are no less than eight other known mineral structures that are composed of the same SiO2 compound as quartz. These substances, having qualities similar to those found in quartz, are polymorphs of silicon dioxide and belong to an informal mineral group called the Quartz Group.

Quartz has a unique heliocentric structure that is created from chains of silicon tetrahedrons. The helix takes four tetrahedrons in order to repeat itself where each tetrahedron is rotated 120 degrees every three turns. The heliocentric chains are aligned along the C axis of the crystal and are interconnected by two other heliocentric chains at each tetrahedron making quartz a true tectosilicate. Because quartz is a true tectosilicate its structure creates an unbroken “chain” that amplifies energies on a microcrystalline level.

The Iron Oxide Enigma

Iron oxide, also known as rust, can potentially be named as the culprit in some instances of paranormal activity. How? In order to move forward, we must look back – back to the days when cassette tapes were considered to be the newest revolutionary phenomenon in the audio visual field. The tapes used a ribbon of composite materials to record sounds from an audio source. In and amongst these materials were micro-fine bits of iron oxide dust. In a rather crude attempt to explain how this process worked the “rust dust” on the tape would be passed over the recording component of the tape recorder where it was electromagnetically charged by an amplified signal that originated at the microphone. This electromagnetic signal would pulse over the recording device head and onto the iron oxide laden tape which would create an embedded magnetic charge that could be played back at will. Thusly this process, when found in naturally occurring environments, could explain some hauntings where the energies were absorbed through “recording.”

How can naturally occurring rust anything to do with paranormal activity? The key is ferromagnetism. Ferromagnetism is the form of magnetism which most people are familiar with, the qualities of which are demonstrated in objects as simple as the everyday refrigerator magnet. Ferromagnetism is responsible for most of the magnetic behavior encountered in everyday life and all permanent magnets – like those on your refrigerator - are ferromagnetic. Metals such as iron and steel are considered to be ferrous metals – meaning that these are materials that can hold a magnetic charge. Rust, being a byproduct of iron and steel, is ferrous and can become ferromagnetic when it is exposed to the correct polar charge.

Another factor to consider is that some areas, due to the natural configuration of their elements do not absorb bioelectric energies, and, in addition, do not allow the energies to dissipate. This reaction can also occur if all of the electron shells in the local environment are filled and covalent bonding can not take place as the electron shells have reached a stabilized state. No matter what the reason, however, the energies, not being absorbed or dissipating through natural means are left in a free floating state, and although they are not bound by linear limitations, tend to stay in the immediate area according to the Law of Conservation of Energy. The bioelectric energies, now retained in the area, will eventually start to gather other like energies in the area through incidental contact and when the bioelectric mass gains enough energy it will become self aware. However, if there is not enough bioelectric energy to allow the mass to become self aware it is then simply an energy form, a bioelectric mass without sentient being.

Model of Paranormal Manifestation

Now that we have addressed the initial question posed at the beginning of the text through the hypothesis on Physio-spectral Fragmentation, the variable factors and applicable laws of physics we can now fully understand the construct by which paranormal anomalies manifest.

Mechanism of Causation – The M/C is the initial force or action that causes the bioelectric energies to be removed or separated from their host source and deposited in a specific area or place.

Physical Processes – First identified by Brian Schill in 2004. Common anatomical knowledge has helped parapsychologists understand that the human brain, and thusly by default, the central and peripheral nervous systems work on a variety of different bioelectric frequencies depending on the different activities undertaken and levels of consciousness that the individual is in. The frequencies that the brain and nervous system function on are Delta (up to 3Hz); Theta (4 to 7Hz); Alpha (8 to 12 Hz); Beta (12 to 30Hz); and Gamma (26 to 100Hz). Additionally, the heart is a syncytium, a mass of cells that transfers the electrical stimulation of one cell to another cell. The bioelectric pulses that are being generated by the human body is equivalent to a constant 12 watts of electricity - enough to power a flashlight! Upon death of the physical body, at the moment the process of biochemical decay begins, the Second Law of Thermodynamics causes a release of the remainder of the bioelectric energy that is left over in the body rather than a destruction of it, as forbidden by the First Law of Thermodynamics. Dr. Janusz Slawinki, a Polish physicist, has proposed that at the time of death this bioelectric current within the body builds at a geometric rate becoming exponentially charged to more than 1000 times that of the normal rate when DNA is decaying. What this potentially means is that for a brief period of time after death the decaying body can produce nearly 12,000 watts of bioelectricity.

Law of Deposition – When a bioelectric field is removed or forced apart from its host source by a Mechanism of Causation and is not allowed to dissipate according to the Second Law of Thermodynamics the energies will, if possible, naturally associate themselves with an area or object within the local environment that has an electron deficit through covalent bonding. The natural deposition and field retaining power of an object or place in the local environment is exponentially increased in areas that have high iron oxide, ferrous metal, quartz or silica content as noted previously.

Bioelectric Stasis – After the bioelectric energies have been removed from the host and deposited into an object or area in the local environment they are usually in a weakened state, not self aware and do not have the ability to manifest. The energies will exist in this suspended state, according to the First Law of Thermodynamics, for an indefinite period of time or until such time that they are brought to action by a trigger mechanism.

Trigger Mechanism – As the name suggests this is an occurrence or action that acts as a trigger to induce the bioelectric field to action from its static (potential) state to a kinetic one. Once induced to action the trigger mechanism also acts in a secondary capacity as an amplifier of the bioelectric energy following Michael Faraday’s Law of Electromagnetic Induction where he stated that [paraphrased] “…power induces power…” From this trigger the anomaly can usually gather, via the Law of Similarity, enough energies of a similar nature to propagate its own existence.

Manifestations – Once “activated” the bioelectric fields begin to gather strength and produce observable manifestations and effects that are data recordable such as EMF fields, apparitions, cold spots and so forth. These manifestations can take any of several forms, not being limited to any singular state.

Conclusion – A Perfect Storm

The bioelectric energies within the body, the variables, environmental factors and the laws of physics must all come together in “a perfect storm,” so to speak, so that the entire process of anomalous anchoring and manifestation can be made possible. Couple the bioelectric energies of a host organism and the 1st Law of Thermodynamics with the variable of psychological stress that can be created in any number of situations, add in environmental factors and the Physio-spectral Fragmentation Hypothesis and you now have a situation of the first magnitude that is prime for creating genuine paranormal anomalies.

[1] The human brain, and thusly by default, the central and peripheral nervous systems work on a variety of different bioelectric frequencies depending on the different activities undertaken and levels of consciousness. This electrical activity is confined to the heart, but is still bound by the 1st Law of Thermodynamics. The regulated electrical pulses originate in the SA Node and travel to the AV Node to Bundles of HIS and then to Perkinje fibers. The wave of electrical stimulation creates an action potential that leads to the heart contractions. Voltage is created by membrane potentials via ion channels. Voltage-gated calcium channels are responsible calcium-induced release which leads to muscle contraction. Potassium channels then lead to the repolarization of the membrane.

[2] The 2nd Law of Thermodynamics states that “No cyclic process is possible in which heat is absorbed from a source and completely converted into mechanical work.” This means that the bioelectric energies can never completely disperse from an area no matter how much they may seem to have depleted. This means that there are always remnants of bioelectric energies from previous times in the local environment. Even though we may not be aware of them they still exist even though they may not have enough force to exert influence on anything of substance. See also Sir James George Frasier’s Law of Contact later in the text.

[3] In Hebrew philosophy this one of the three parts of the non-physical individual. The mind is known as “Ruach” or, as translated into English, Intellect. The other two components of human non-physicality are Neschamah, or Soul and Chiah, the Life Force.

[4] The Greek to English transliteration of the word has been provided by the author for clarity. Sheol, the Greek word for “grave” is commonly mistranslated and subsequently turned into a parallel of Hades - “the burning place,” however, the original Greek meaning referenced a deity of the underworld, not a firey realm where people were tortured and punished for their misdeeds during life.
